Japan - Narita Old Town at Sunrise - Empty Streets & Temple Sounds
Dec 5, 2025 Sunrise Walk Through Narita Old Town and Naritasan Temple Grounds A quiet walk at sunrise from Narita Station, down Narita Omotesando Street, and into the grounds of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple and its park – just a short ride from Narita Airport. Hello Walkers, This walk starts outside Narita Station in the early morning, when the town is still almost empty. From there, the route follows Narita Omotesando, the old main street lined with traditional wooden shopfronts, local food stalls and classic eel restaurants that are still closed or just beginning to wake up for the day. At the end of the street, the path opens into the grounds of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, one of the most important temples in the region. You’ll hear temple bells, incense burners and the first visitors arriving, and there is a brief moment where a monk and his attendants pass by in a quiet morning ritual. Beyond the main buildings, the walk continues into Naritasan Park, a surprisingly calm garden area with ponds, trees and winding paths behind the temple complex.
