Putting the EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability into action: Addressing EDCs and mixtures
On April 15, 2021, from 17:00 to 18:00 CET, the Food Packaging Forum held the second webinar within its Spring 2021 series titled “Putting the EU Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) into action: Challenges and opportunities for Food Contact Materials (FCMs).” This second webinar focused on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and chemical mixtures. It featured two presentations from Dr. Pete Myers of Environmental Health Sciences (EHN) and Prof. Thomas Backhaus of the University of Gothenburg. Dr. Myers presented on the unique characteristics of EDCs and the current understanding of how they impact health, and Prof. Backhaus’ talk provided an overview of the complex issue of chemical mixtures and discussed potential regulatory options. The presentations were followed by an open discussion session with the audience, including the opportunity to ask questions.
